I have enjoyed going to the GA National Fair for several years. This year was no exception. I actually went twice. The first time I went was as a school bus driver taking a group of special needs kids out to enjoy a day at the fair. The second time I went with my good friend Shirley, who had some passes she had obtained and wanted to use.
I didn’t take any photos on the field trip. I didn’t bring my camera and didn’t see anything I wanted to capture using my iPhone. I usually don’t walk around with my iPhone in hand thinking about taking photographs. If I see something that is of particular interest, and I don’t have my Nikon, that’s when I get it out of my pocket and take aim. I’m usually not in a state of cat-like readiness and probably miss a lot of interesting things while the impulses go from my eye to see a good opportunity; then to my brain to realize it’s a good opportunity; then to my hands to fish the iPhone out of my pocket; then to my hands and brain to set up a shot and execute the act of photography. Sometimes video depending on the situation at hand.
With my Nikon DSLR it’s often already in my hand, or at least hanging off it’s strap in close reach. I am looking around with intentionality, and often take many more photos than I need. If anything is of interest I’ll often take a photograph. Usually it doesn’t amount to much, but occasionally I may get lighting in a bottle.
Anyway I did bring my DSLR along on my second trip to the fair with Shirley. I didn’t do as much street style photography this year as I have in the past when I went to the fair alone. I didn’t do much at all. I did get a couple photos of my friend as we walked around the exhibition hall. I didn’t want to overwhelm my friend with photo taking, so I only got a few different looks. A few of which I have posted below.
There was an event at the fair where I did take quite a lot of photos. It was a staged event performed periodically any given day. It was called Disc Connected K9s. It was a dog show where trained dogs and their handlers did tricks with frisbees. It was fun, and a good opportunity to take some interesting photos, and exercise some shooting discipline. The high speeds of the interactions made for a challenging environment. As is the usual case, I shot using full manual settings.
The event itself had two handlers working with three dogs. All of the dogs were very impressive in my opinion. The handlers in the show discussed each dog and it’s characteristics while having them run around chasing frisbees. The show lasted around 30 minutes, and beside my photo taking I was well entertained.
While I took many and got many good photos, I’m only going to post these three. One of each of the dog stars doing something pretty amazing. I hope you enjoy them,
