    December 23, 2025

Christmas is getting close. My sister and her family are in town for the holidays. I very much enjoy seeing them and visiting. They’re all good people.

We keep busy going out to eat for lunch and seeing some of the Hollywood provided entertainment currently on screen. I and my nephew went to see Five Nights at Freddy’s part 2. My sister, brother in-law and niece went with their grandma and grandpa to see Zootopia part 2, which they all seemed to enjoy. I heard nothing but good things from them.

I’m not going to do a full review of Five Nights at Freddy’s two or (FNAF2). I just want to say my nephew is super excited about the franchise. It was great to watch him be so happy and excited about something. He is looking forward to many more installments, which are basically already written. The FNAF franchise is apparently based on a video game series that has many installments and sounds like there could be many more. I expect as long as it continues to make money there will be FANF content to enjoy.

I’m continuing my exploration of the batch of band photos I’ve been recently parsing. This new installment I’ve prepared today consists of the actual on field set done by the Perry Panther Regiment. They were very good in my opinion. They sounded good. Had very good disciple and precision in the choreography from my perspective. If memory serves they got second overall in the rankings, which is pretty respectable I’d think. I’m sure like any competitive organization there was some post game criticism once they got back to school after the weekend. I doubt any chairs were thrown.

This first gallery shows the band marching onto the field, which is pretty impressive and probably part of the grading. Marching band I’d assume come from military tradition. It looks like an army marching into town. I could go on about my fascination for military history, or history in general, but That’s another post, maybe. I just wanted to note the impressiveness of first impressions as they march on to the field and take their places.

This last gallery is the same picture. I took only my 50mm lens with me for this event, and took all these photos from a seat in the bleachers. With the 50mm the shots are quite wide, as you can see. In the previous gallery I’ve cropped a few in closer. But with this last image I cropped very close on a specific couple of subjects.

I was really pretty happy and impressed with the technical results of the crop. My camera is a beast. It’s not the latest and greatest anymore, but it was at one time, and remains very impressive. It will never degrade in quality, at least until it ceases functioning all together, which is hopefully many decades from now. As I said it is a beast. Built like a tank as far as cameras are concerned. Tech will outpace it eventually, but as long as it remains functional it will be capable of creating very impressive photographs.

In this side by side view of the original full resolution image and the cropped view there are technical differences regarding resolution. The full version is 8209x5473px. The cropped version is 1097x731px. A very big difference as you can see mathematically and visually. The cropped version isn’t quite as sharp as I’d like. I expect that has more to do with how the shot was focused than the capability of the camera. Of course focusing is a capability of the camera, but it is dependent on my vision and other external variables. Sadly my vision is a bit blurry at long distances, I’m nearsighted, which is one of the prizes one wins for getting older. The cropped image would be more difficult to print out at large sizes without distortion, which is a downside to relying on your cameras megapixels to crop into the shot you want. It’s always best to get the shot right in the camera strait up. Depending on the circumstances, that’s not always possible though, so we do what we can. Happily technology is much more friendly that it was at at the beginning of the digital revolution, which I lived though.

    blog

Marching into the future with my kind of weapons.

Another excellent photograph of a band field trip. I don’t know who this band is. It was just one of the many present to take place in the competition/celebration. I incorrectly identified the location of this particular event in my previous blog examining this batch of photographs. It seems I don’t have a notation on my calendar for this one, which seems strange. I generally try to put all my field trips on my calendar for a record and reminder.

This one is the Perry Panther Regiment that much is certain. One of the photos in this batch has a sign saying it’s around Lake Lanier, which it is. I remember driving over the lake to get there. The facilities at this event weren’t nearly as fancy as what I described previously. They were very nice though. A nice hospitality room in a facility that has been around some many years, but very well maintained. This was more like the school facilities I’m used to seeing than the band new facility I described previously.

I really appreciate band, bands, and even marching band. When I was a kid I hated marching band, and somehow managed to get myself kicked out of my schools marching band. I don’t think people get kicked out very often. I was always a special kid, lol. I hated doing it, but now I appreciate watching it, and wish I has more sense when I was a kid. Granted I wanted out because I really didn’t like the band director, but I know he was doing what he thought best. I never did go to one of these competitions. I’m not sure they even had them at time or in the different state I lived in at the time. I can see from my perspective as an observer the kids seem to really enjoy themselves on these trips. A sense of pride. A sense of camaraderie. Military level disciple, almost, without the aggression and violence of the military. I think my genetic heritage predisposes me to have a strong appreciation for well maintained discipline.

Bringing me to the today’s picture. A group of young people marching to their war/competition. A war without blood, but these kids take it pretty seriously, some much more than others. It’s interesting to me how some kids can be dead serious about their commitment to pure excellence in something that ultimately doesn’t make much difference to themselves or most anyone really. The drum majors are the best example. They work so hard to get that position and have to work very hard to make it work once they get there. The band directors are really the only ones with an actual tangible reason for the ability to project excellence. Their funding depends on it to some extant or another. Then the rank and file range from serious to apathy and probably in some cases actual dislike, but the ones that still find themselves there maintain a minimum level of competence or they wold be kicked out like I once was.

I love saxophones. I played saxophones when I was in band. I had an alto sax. I also played tenor and baritone saxophones that belonged to the school. At the time my favorite was the tenor. I think today I’d like the baritone the most. I love bass nowadays. I went on to get and play bass guitar after leaving band.

I’ve run out of writing steam. Enjoy the photos, and Merry Christmas season to you.

  • Yes, a Break!

    Yes, a Break!

    December 18, 2025

I’m glad I was wrong about last night’s presidential address to the nation. Blessedly there was no illegal declaration of war, or a legal one. I still believe war’s coming though. It’s basically already on us. Most US citizens will be insulated from it.

Yesterday’s presidential address seems like it was mostly dear leader telling US what a great job dear leader has done. Apparently he was angry in his delivery, which isn’t anything new.

I didn’t watch the speech. It started later than I expected when I posted yesterday, otherwise I probably would have. I thought I was thinking I was wrong. I thought either I actually imagined hearing the announcement of a speech, or that it was canceled. Both possibilities, so I ended up going to bed about the time it actually began. Gotta wake up early to drive the bus, and I need my sleep.

I believe it was yesterday morning when the news informed US that a full naval blockade of Venezuela had been created with the mandate to not allow sanctioned oil tankers to depart their territorial waters. That fact was the main factor for thinking a declaration of war would be issued last night. I imagine that misdirection was part of the strategy to keep Venezuela and U.S. off balance. A power play to show who’s in charge of the dogs and toys of war. It feels to me that killing-machines are being treated as toys for amusement and enrichment.

It’s no new concept that simply having a huge stockpile of weapons and the soldiers to use them isn’t good enough, they must be used. Troops need on the job experience. I suppose experience is a good thing in most cases, but was seems a bit different to me. I’d like to think good training would suffice as an alternative to raining death upon whoever the enemy of the control matrix is at any given time.

It is the politicians and oligarchs and probably some generals who want war, or combat actions to project power and test capabilities. They want to keep a stable of experienced soldiers in the ranks at all times, which I I said is logical but also horrible. I imagine most believe they are doing good. Doing God’s work and are completely justified in the many military actions constantly occurring around the globe at any given time. I believe that unfortunately the control matrix dictating most of these actions are doing it for reasons I wouldn’t think appropriate. But who am I.

There’s the stockpiles of weapons and munitions. Stockpile that need to be depleted before they can be replenished. And a healthy defense industry requires a steady stream of contracts to replenish and upgrade current capabilities. Besides if you don’t use them then what good are they? And in our great and free country of the brave with it’s insistence on the virtue of work and improved productivity, the factories and shops and labs must be constantly running. After all war is one of the biggest pieces of the US economy, and by far the biggest part of the peoples of the US’s annual budgets, and will only become more so if things continue on the current trajectory.

    December 19…

It’s a new day. It’s a good day. Today is the last day of school before the winter break. Last day of driving a bus full of young people to the indoctrination/educational facilities for the year. Most are good kids, and most teachers are doing their very best to teach them.

Today I include a nice picture of some school busses I took on a field trip. It’s the same band trip I referenced in my last post. I think this is very nice shot. I hope you enjoy it.

  • Panther ladies’ b-ball

    Panther ladies’ b-ball

It’s cold out today. I’m out in the cold. It’s Georgia so it’s not really that cold compared to a lot of places. But I’ve become accustomed to the hot of this place.

I’m sitting in a school bus. It’s 8pm and I’m doing a field trip for the cheerleaders for the basketball team, the Perry Panthers. I’ve never done this type of trip before. I’ve done band trips to football games. I’ve taken cheerleaders to their competitions. I’ve taken some various smaller sports, like swimming, places. But this my first high school basketball ball game. I don’t think I ever went to a HS basketball game when I was in high school. Sports was never my thing. It’s a new experience.

Not really knowing what the event entails, I’ve been surprised. There were boys playing already when our bus full of cheerleaders got on scene. They didn’t come out and cheer for the boys at all. I was like, huh? Then the cheer squad came out making noise for the ladies team. I was like okay, they’re cheering for the girls team. I kinda thought since the boys already played the girls were the main event. I thought that was interesting and progressive. I was a bit shocked.

Well the lady Panthers game was wrapping up. At about 2 minutes left on the clock I went back to my bus to get it warmed up for the ladies after their work cheering and dancing. I sat here with the bus running for probably a half hour. I noticed, when I stopped looking at my phone, there were people still going into the gym/venue. More people were going in than were coming out. I realized the ass-umption made an ass out of me.

After seeing the light, I realized the boys playing after the girls. When I came in at first it must have been junior varsity team playing. The lady Panthers weren’t the top of the bill after all. Of course the lady’s team wouldn’t be the top bill. That’s just too progressive, lol. the main event was the varsity boy’s team.

Anyway I turned the bus off and now sitting outside waiting for the fun and games inside to finish up. With the bus off, the heater is off. My toes are getting nipped by the frost. Actually there’s no frost. It’s 40f outside right now. That’s about 4.5c. People that live in actual cold climates probably think this is a nice spring day. It’s not really too bad, but I’m thinking I may need to heat the bus up again soon. I wonder how much game is left?

I was looking at Threads and Facebook before I decided to do something creative instead of stagnant. I don’t really think being a big social media commentator is in anyway a worthwhile use of time. But I do like to check the comments on posts that catch my attention. Is that counterintuitive or contradictory? I don’t necessarily think so.

Making a comment on a popular post is like pissing in the ocean. You could take the most important piss and it would be diffused and gone almost instantly. At least when I make a comment on anything I don’t expect much to come from it. I’m not an influencer or someone whose job is to make commentary. There are undoubtedly many people making and trying to make money by getting likes and views and whatnot. Such has no interest to me, so I know very little about that world.

Reading comments can give a less and less over time understanding of the zeitgeist. I say less and less because with time the evil powers that keep their thumb on the scales are figuring out how to manipulate this semi-free-speech platform. It’s so free it can be bought and paid for. It’s as free as anything else in this free world. That’s to say not really free at all. Sure you can say whatever the hell you want, but it won’t amount to a hill of beans. That is unless you’re well funded.

Entire industries have been created to maintain control. Control of the narrative. Control of hearts and minds. Control of the world, or at least our sector of the control matrix.

Control matrix, hmm. I like that. I’ve never heard it before. It’s probably been said before though. It quite possibly has an entire academic study underway as we speak. Actually I’m sure it does, but it’s just probably called something different.

So what do I mean by Control Matrix? That’s probably something I could spend a lot of time on, but this basketball game is probably getting close to finishing. I’ll try to say what I can.

Control Matrix is pretty much exactly what it sounds like. It is the spheres of control of the world. Using Orwell’s work it would be East Asia, Eurasia, Ingsoc, I forgot the others. The Orwell version is actually pretty accurate for the most part, at least at the macro level.

I see the USA, Russia, and China as the biggest players. Europe probably is too, but they have been leaning on the USA a lot. That’s something I kinda agree with Trump on. Haha my phone automatically capitalized Trump.

Yes Trump undoubtedly put is taint on the world by dominating US politics for a very short time period at this point. I hope it stays short and people can shake off this parasitic scourge of MAGAs. I hope my worst fears don’t manifest in his declaring martial law or some other bullshit to hold onto power after he looses the next cycle of elections.

Trump’s been setting the groundwork for nefarious schemes to get and keep power since Obama was president. The invasion of Venezuela is in the works and will probably be MAGAs gift to the world this holiday season. Another bullshit scheme.

TDS or Trump derangement syndrome is one of the many bullshit schemes I’m talking about. Apparently TDS is something he made up while talking shit at his shit-talking rallies. Did he think of it, or did he just work it into the conversation? Probably a marketing team came up with TDS. Anyway according to my Dad there are apparently actual doctors and therapists who are saying TDS is a real mental illness, at least was my understanding. I’m sure it’s well studied and not just the result of getting a check to go on the news with an expert opinion. Imagine the ego to think you are the reason a new mental illness has just popped into existence. I can’t imagine anyone would earnestly think that, but it is a damn good tool to divide people.

I don’t watch news all day or absorb propaganda for my entertainment Like some people I know do. At least I’d like to think I don’t. There are people whose whole job is to absorb as much of the shit then try to make a tasty pie for public consumption.

I do doom scroll Facebook more than I should. I try hard to keep a clear view of reality, but it can be very difficult. The many different people pulling leaver and pushing buttons in the control matrix are very good at what they do. I remember being exposed to a thought that seems relevant here. Imagine all of the genius putting all it’s effort into marketing products or ideas, instead of using their genius for doing something constructive or beautiful. Of course the need to eat and live in a house and buy a car and wear designer clothes and keep up with the Jones’s requires selling your genius and your soul to the machine and the wielders of power in the control matrix.

I definitely don’t have my finger on the pulse of right-wing propaganda. My bubble definitely leans left, but I go out of my way sometimes to see what the other side is saying. This includes comments where you can often get a robust debate. By debate I mostly mean ass holes yelling and calling each other names. Occasionally you come across something not too terrible. Rarely you find something good in the comments.

Anyway the Control Matrix controls social media. There was probably a little actual freedom in the beginning, discussions and debates of an organic nature among actual people with actual interest in a given topic. Now you can’t trust comments even come from an actual human. I don’t entirely understand how bots work and just how sophisticated they are, but with ai I have to expect they are pretty sophisticated. Of course not everyone can afford high end bots to spam your message all over the internet world. That’s okay there are marketing companies that hire people to do it too. I know the US government hires or did hire actual people, presumably some actual Americans, to sit on the internet and pretend to be something or someone or many someone’s they’re not. I remember they are called sock puppets. One operative could have dozens of alias accounts and have a conversation with themselves to steer a conversation in a comment thread the direction desired by the employer of the sock puppet. I know a lot of the hired hands of marketing companies have been outsourced to foreign countries where labor is cheaper. There’s a lot of people in India, for example, happy to learn enough of the English language to not starve to death.

It looks like people coming out of the gym. Hopefully we can go soon.

  • Okay

    Okay

It’s Sunday. I got a nice long rest last night. I woke up and fixed some things on my site. It’s still very much a work in progress. Lately I’ve been making changes quite a lot. Sometimes there are pretty obvious errors that need fixing. Sometimes I just don’t like the way something comes across. I want to be as clear and concise as possible while still conveying a little of who and what I am. Who and what I am is changing daily, so it can be difficult to nail down how I want the copy to read.

I did a good bit of work in Lightroom today. Not sure what inspired me to start playing with the meta data, but that’s what I did. I refined and reorganized my presets. First I had to remember how to make changes as it’s been a long time since I’ve done anything with them. That kinda led into trying to clean up my keywords. That’s a very difficult thing to do after the fact when you have forty thousand files in your library, and it’s constantly growing. I’m going to need to think about upgrading my storage in the next year or so. But with the keywords I started out using Adobe Bridge as a file manager, which was a mistake. I thought I was being proactive and making things easier and more streamlined for myself in the future by creating a keyword hierarchy. Turns out it just a made a mess when Lightroom looks at the meta data. I don’t think I’ll ever make it how I want it without undo time and effort. It just isn’t reasonable.

I did play around with some experimental shots I took several nights ago. They were taken from the comfort of my couch. I appreciate comfort a great deal, and wish I found myself in more different comfortable situations where I could just shoot random things in different ways.

The pictures I’m posting with this entry are variations on a ceiling fan. It’s all the same image. It’s just manipulated a little bit in each frame. A very little bit actually, but the looks are very different. I find it fun to play around/experiment with images sometimes. I’m probably being foolish to post things like this, but oh well. I doubt anyone will even look at this post.

I need to work on my negativity. I suppose that this blog project is sort of a way to navigate my issues. Writing things like this help me order my thoughts. Archive them. Putting them online could be dangerous in some ways, but I will continue until I see reason not to. In the mean time I’m enjoying and probably getting some therapeutic benefit from creating these posts. It’s interesting to see it evolve.

  • Georgia National Fair 2025

    Georgia National Fair 2025

I have enjoyed going to the GA National Fair for several years. This year was no exception. I actually went twice. The first time I went was as a school bus driver taking a group of special needs kids out to enjoy a day at the fair. The second time I went with my good friend Shirley, who had some passes she had obtained and wanted to use.

I didn’t take any photos on the field trip. I didn’t bring my camera and didn’t see anything I wanted to capture using my iPhone. I usually don’t walk around with my iPhone in hand thinking about taking photographs. If I see something that is of particular interest, and I don’t have my Nikon, that’s when I get it out of my pocket and take aim. I’m usually not in a state of cat-like readiness and probably miss a lot of interesting things while the impulses go from my eye to see a good opportunity; then to my brain to realize it’s a good opportunity; then to my hands to fish the iPhone out of my pocket; then to my hands and brain to set up a shot and execute the act of photography. Sometimes video depending on the situation at hand.

With my Nikon DSLR it’s often already in my hand, or at least hanging off it’s strap in close reach. I am looking around with intentionality, and often take many more photos than I need. If anything is of interest I’ll often take a photograph. Usually it doesn’t amount to much, but occasionally I may get lighting in a bottle.

Anyway I did bring my DSLR along on my second trip to the fair with Shirley. I didn’t do as much street style photography this year as I have in the past when I went to the fair alone. I didn’t do much at all. I did get a couple photos of my friend as we walked around the exhibition hall. I didn’t want to overwhelm my friend with photo taking, so I only got a few different looks. A few of which I have posted below.

There was an event at the fair where I did take quite a lot of photos. It was a staged event performed periodically any given day. It was called Disc Connected K9s. It was a dog show where trained dogs and their handlers did tricks with frisbees. It was fun, and a good opportunity to take some interesting photos, and exercise some shooting discipline. The high speeds of the interactions made for a challenging environment. As is the usual case, I shot using full manual settings.

The event itself had two handlers working with three dogs. All of the dogs were very impressive in my opinion. The handlers in the show discussed each dog and it’s characteristics while having them run around chasing frisbees. The show lasted around 30 minutes, and beside my photo taking I was well entertained.

While I took many and got many good photos, I’m only going to post these three. One of each of the dog stars doing something pretty amazing. I hope you enjoy them,

  • The World Owns You

    The World Owns You

    Part 2

A little bit more about school discipline and it’s relationship to how the world owns you. Public schools are the product of a public education system. That system is administered by some governing body or another. Here in the U.S. It could be national, state or county. Usually it’s a mix of all three to some degree or another depending on the political climate of the moment, location, and willingness to follow laws. The administration of any actual school building, the place where the rules meet the reality, is a combination of regulations piled on by multiple levels of bureaucracy but ultimately administered by the final link in that bureaucratic chain, in most cases the teacher, who must exercise their own discretion in the application of those rules, and results can vary widely between individuals.

From my perspective as a school bus driver, they too are responsible for ultimate administering of the layers of rules expected in the public school environment. Bing as how this is the point of view of my perspective I can comment with some authority about the relationship of the layers of rules and expectations and how it is applied at the final point of contact between the bureaucracy and intended control vector, i.e. the student. It is then important to note that in the ideal administration of rules and the education for the student, the chain of administration doesn’t stop at the school-level but with the parent or guardian.

The teacher and the bus driver aren’t the only ones who have contact with the student. To some extant the interactions of any and all staff in a public school have impact in the students. From the kitchen staff to the custodial staff, from the student resource officers to the nurse. Obviously the principles are very important as they are responsible for administering all that goes on inside a school building and on it’s grounds. The principles are beholden to the their superiors and must act with that in the back of their head when doing anything. And up and up and up the bureaucratic chain until you reach God.

Yes, God is the ultimate bureaucratic manager, and that opens a whole other can of worms. But for my purpose God will be the end all be all of authority. You may think of it as destiny or a random number generator or something else entirely, but it all comes down to something beyond human control, and that is my point.

Back to school. I am using school at this time because it is something I’m somewhat familiar with. It is also a microcosm of the world at large in many ways. The education system in the U.S. is something that can be analyzed in a fairly comprehensive way. It is in theory a public institution that in theory is subject to public scrutiny, much more so than institutions like private schools or business. It’s worth noting that private schools are essentially private business in the U.S. And private business isn’t legally required to be as open with information as are public schools, which despite the legal assumption that the public can access it’s information is still relatively opaque.

  • Fair Daze

    Fair Daze

It’s been a good while since I’ve posted. That doesn’t mean I’ve been idle. My JOB is always something that takes a lot of time and energy from me, and JOB is in full swing now. It has consumed a lot of my energy. Sadly the older I get the less energy there is to be consumed.

I have been doing photog type things though. As I type this I am importing about 500 photos from several different sessions. The bulk of those numbers come from two live events I recently attended, a high school band competition for the Perry High School Band, the Panther Brigade, and a day of walking around the GA National Fair with my friend Shirley. A great many of those frames will inevitably find there way to the trash due to repetition or simple sucking. But I expect a good number of quality frames to satisfy my photo-lust.

At the band competition I did shot a lot of frames as sequences to string together later as video and GIF type stuff. I was feeling experimental. This type of thing has always interested me with the stuttered psudo-time-lapse effect in motion presentation. Time will tell if any of it is worth while. I don’t have any any specific goals other than to see what happens, and exercise my skills. I only had my 50mm lens along being it was a work field trip and space was very limited on the school bus with a full load of band kids and chaperones . Consequently there aren’t any closeups of the actual field competition unfortunately. I did get some nice color shots of the audience and general gestalt. I also got several nice sequences, while walking back to my bus, of other bands moving from the staging area to the field. And I had to presence of mind to finally get some nice shots of school buses. When doing some editing I noticed I didn’t have many bus shots at all to choose from, and was a little dismayed.

The bulk of the fair frames I captured are from a side-show of dogs catching Frisbees. It was fun. I mashed the button a lot. There is undoubtedly a lot of junk in there, but I hope there is a lot of cool shots too. It will be a while after I post this before I really look at them. But I did did see some cool stuff as I started the import session.

The thing that has been of the most interest to me recently, and is the focus of the photo portion of this post, I entered six of my photographs into the fair this year. This is the first time I’ve I’ve ever entered a competition or anything officially. I was excited and nervous leading up to doing this. There was a good deal of preparation required. I had to have prints made following the specifications set forth by the fair organizers. That cost me a pretty penny I had to scrape together, but I’m glad I did it, even if I had to do without a little bit.

Before the fair I dreamed I would win a ribbon, and emerge a winner. Sadly I wasn’t a winner. I didn’t even get an honorable mention. I was disappointed yes. Regardless, it was great to see my photographs along side many other amazing works from amazing photographers. The excitement and hope of the entire experience was a pleasant interlude that left me feeling satisfied I had done something concrete with my hobby. I learned a few things I think as I continue to present my work in the future.

Below are the six entries in no particular order.

  • Creepy Myrtle

    Creepy Myrtle

What I post today are macro lens photographs of a crepe myrtle. Some of them are a little creepy, but in a lovely way. The organic structure of these plants looks a bit unsettling, to me anyway. It has a somewhat alien feel. But it’s just nature doing what nature does, whatever it wants.

  • Buzzards are a good omen right?

Buzzards are a good omen right?

I was looking for a tie in with that title because my topic and my pics are going to be completely unrelated. I took these photos a good while back at least over a month ago. Ive been sitting on them because Ive been busy with other things and I didn’t want two bird posts in a row. Im not sure why I felt that way but here we are.

I really like these photos of the buzzards which is a colloquialism for vultures. I believe these are vultures based on my expert usage of Google. Besides they are a pretty unique looking bird and something kids learn about due to the unique look they have compared to other birds. Specifically the bald head. The reason it’s bald is pretty interesting, but I’ll leave that to you to research.

These were taken literally in my back yard. On occasion a large pack/flock/murder of buzzards hang around the area looking for food and it’s a pretty nice place, lots of trees, lots of water, probably lots of dead things to feast upon nearby. Yes buzzards are scavengers. You probably already knew that but it doesn’t hurt to mention. When I saw the star of the show posing for me I knew I couldn’t be lazy and went for my camera. I’m so glad I did. While not the most beautiful of birds in a conventional sense these pics turned out beautifully in my opinion. And that pose is just so gnarly. I assume that one was warming up as it was the cool season. In any case it kept that wings out pose for a good long while and gave me ample opportunity to get some pretty awesome shots. Thanks buzzard buddy. I think you are beautiful.

So what does any of that have to do with omens? Well buzzards, being scavengers of carrion, typically imply that something close by is dead or dying, not the most happy of omens. Even though I like to think I’m a rational person that bases their most important decisions on cold logic and scientific principles I also believe in the supernatural to some extant. I don’t think one should dismiss thousands of years of human instinct and tradition entirely out of hand. Besides you couldn’t really disprove something like a black cat crossing your path and the trajectory of your day. Or maybe you could but I still believe there are things science can’t account for entirely and will probably always be as long as there are humans to observe things.

Anyway these buzzards appeared at a time in my life when a lot of things are going wrong. With my personal outlook it’s probably safe to say I think a lot of things are going wrong most of the time, and maybe that’s the case but isn’t objectively measurable. As it is a matter that is entirely my own it is my subjective opinion and therefore must be true to me. But I do try to stand back and think about it comparing my state of being with that of a poor orphan child in some third world country who’s survival depends on what they find in the trash dump. So while things seem to be falling apart left and right they are so much better than they could be for a human or other living thing in this life.

As I write this stream of consciousness blog/journal entry it occurs to me my attention deficit disorder supposedly mild has really kicked into high gear. What I’m writing now is different than what I intended to write while I was thinking ahead a couple sentences ago. And this is something I’ve struggled with my whole life I suppose. But only recently was I given that diagnosis from a therapeutic counselor. She wasn’t a doctor but a master of Psychology. I think her assessment is good as I can’t keep a constant line of thought to save my life when left to my own devices. Good or not there has been no treatment, and probably never will be. But that’s okay I guess my life isn’t in imminent danger due to this condition, at least not tangibly. But it does kinda help explain why I never really found something to excel at in a professional sense. At least I have made it this far despite my own self inflicted wounds in part stemming on my inability to remain focused on anything for very long.

Photography is the only thing in my life I have been able to keep a focus on and interest in for so long. And even then there were long periods I didn’t focus on it due to the may other important things that were my world. Things like jobs, education and relationships. The things that keep a person alive in this world. Photography is great but in my experience has been more of a net resource loss and not something that I was capable of maintaining all the time. But with that said my interest in photography did evolve into what I did professionally for a long while, and was in many ways significantly complementary. Specifically the business of video, which was at the time potentially more lucrative. Video production was already a large industry and was growing and evolving quickly. I was lucky to work myself into a position where I was able to make it my job. But due to a lot of bad decisions and luck I never was able to move above the line and get to the lucrative part of the business. But I did learn a whole lot about a whole lot of things, many of which directly tie into photography. Really the industry of film and video production was built on the back of photography. A fact that seems self evident to me but is probably never consciously considered by most people. And really why would they?
