In this part of the world, middle Georgia, it’s rare, very rare, to get any snow at all. Never mind getting snow that sticks to the ground. Snow accumulation is almost unheard of. Accumulation of the magnitude we experienced last night is rare indeed.
I got yesterday off work for a snow day. A lot of times the mere suggestion of snow is enough to shut a lot of this place down. There were pretty credible forecasts saying we would be getting it. And we did. It didn’t actually start snowing until mid to late afternoon. If we did have school yesterday I don’t think there would have been any weather related problems. But erring on the side of caution was wise, as accurately predicting when such an event will happen isn’t easy.
The snow started around 3:00 pm. At least that’s when I noticed it. I took my camera out to document the occasion. A little while after it started snowing I got a couple shots of my back yard, which you will see here.
Pretty exciting! I thought so. That is about the normal amount of snow that this area sees on the special occasion it sees any. But it kept snowing. It kept snowing well into the night. I took these following photos around 7:30pm. Hardly blizzard conditions for you northerners, but pretty amazing for the south.
In the morning I had to check on the situation. My curiosity was almost at Christmas morning intensity. The scenery did not disappoint. I don’t remember ever seeing this much snow here in the twenty or so years I’ve called Warner Robins home. There was a time when I lived in Atlanta that was on par with this, but Atlanta is further north and a good bit colder.
I’ve been busy today working on Carterpix stuff. I think I’ll go see how much is left at 2pm.
