Water marked / Artsy burning candle behind a glass. Dark and moody.

I’ve been enjoying posting things from other artists. The things I’ve recently shown from the High Museum have been very enjoyable to me. While there is some skill needed to render the art of others in a respectable way, it is still other peoples art. In some instances like the Sanié Sory photograph, I add my touch. People gathered in appreciation of the photograph adds a new layer I suppose. In some cases it was done fairly deliberately by me, like the Sanié Sory photograph. I expect there will be future posts in the High series where the second layer of environment and observers is less planned.

Anyway I like to think of myself as somewhat of an artist in my own rights. Occasionally I am inspired to do something like what I have to show you today. This was something that just happened without any planning or forethought. I was just sitting on my couch watching a movie when I thought, “Hey that would be pretty cool.”

I enjoy dark, moody images like this. The only light was from the candle and an ambient light from the television screen. I like slow shutter speeds and a little blur in some cases, when that’s what I’m trying to achieve. It’s very frustrating to get blur when you don’t want it blurred. Knowing the difference is one thing that comes with practice.

I’ve decided to use my watermark on these. I am still working out so many things with the website and blog of mine. I may use the watermark on all successive blog posts. Or maybe I won’t. Maybe I’ll only use them on images that are somewhat unique or could have some application that another person would want to steal it for some reason. Honestly I’m not even sure a person could download any of the images off my blog without doing a screenshot. It may be egotistical to think anyone would ever want any of these pictures. It may be wildly optimistic. In any case I like them, and hope someone else does too.

High Museum of Art: part 3

This post continues “Giants:” Art from the Dean Collection of Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys. The collection will be displayed through January 19, 2025. You still have a couple days to see it if you so wish.

Sanié Sory is the name of the photographer that took the prominent image you see displayed here. Appreciating the art is some random gentleman sitting on the bench contemplating. Standing on the left of the frame is my sister as she appreciates.

Esther Malangy is credited with the next two paintings. They are acrylic on canvas. Malangy hails from South Africa. born in 1935.

Upon first seeing these painting I initially thought of Native American art I’ve seen while traveling in the south western United State. I was surprised to find it was African in origin.

My personal thoughts of these paintings was a strong appreciation for the vivid colors used and I love patterns in all forms, especially art. I also thought about how interesting that the native arts of Africa and the Native America’s had such similarity. The patterns seem very much aligned, with the main differences being the color pallet used.

  • I got a new bus.

    I got a new bus.

I’d like to say a few things about my new 2025 Bluebird propane powered bus that I just received on the first day back from Christmas break.

I like it. I went from and All American flat nose pusher diesel model to this smaller puller model. I’m not sure if it’s called anything other than standard or something like that. I know what I mean, and hope anyone else who possibly sees this can figure it out. It’s not too important to understand the difference except to note that my new bus is smaller than the the previous one. It also drives differently. I really like the way the new bus handles. The suspension is stiffer, which is a little disappointing, but it’s nothing to complain about in my opinion. You feel the bumps just a bit more than the old one. On the other hand the seat seems to be more comfortable and able to absorb a little of the road feel.

The children don’t like it as much, but they don’t have to spend anywhere near as much time riding it as your humble servant must endure. It’s going to take some getting used to for all of us. I am sure that by next week the novelty will have worn off and it will be back to business as usual.

After my very first trip in it yesterday I noticed something interesting. So, I’m kind of a nerd I guess. I enjoy interesting patterns I find in the world, may of which are number related. When the clock would switch over to 11:11 or something like that it would frequently warrant a comment in my family. Naturally there al sorts of other types of patterns and things I find interesting. If you for some reason follow my blog or my photographic work at all you will notice my fascination with patterns. But what I have here is a serendipitous number pattern I wasn’t trying to manufacture or even look for. I simply noticed it when I did my pre trip inspection coming back to do the afternoon routes. It didn’t even occur to me when I logged it for my post trip inspection after the morning route. Sometimes a deeper consciousness leads to deeper appreciation.

This photo, as is the gallery below, is taken with my iPhone X. It’s not the highest quality as far as resolution is concerned, or effort to get a perfect shot. Please don’t think ill of my skill based on these quick phone pix.

High Museum of Art: part 2

    And some thoughts

Tomorrow I go back to work. School starts up again. Day one of the second semester. It’s going to take some readjustment, as always. Going back to work after two weeks off is not an easy adjustment. But one must get used to it fast. I will be starting out this new semester with a brand new school bus. It’s exciting but a little bit of anxiety is also in me. It’s just another bus, but it is a different style. It has five less seats than the old bus, which is going to take some getting used to. The loss of seats is my main source on anxiety. But I know other routes have a lot more overcrowding than I. It will all work out as God wills it, with a little guidance from me.

This second installment of artifacts from the High Museum are, I believe, from the Alicia Key’s collection. These painting are of Alicia and her, I believe, husband. Regrettably I didn’t read all the placards, and even the many I did read all kinda blurred together. If you happen to look at future installments of this “High” series of blogs you will notice I tried to include placards when I could.

High Museum of Art: part 1

I would like to start a series of posts that highlight a trip I took with family to the High Museum of Art in Atlanta. I got many photos I quite liked. I want to share them, and I want to do a little experimentation with the blog formatting and use.

These three photos are of my sister, my sister and her family in front of a statue in the High lobby, and a picture of the statue. I have made these with a long edge of 1000 pixels, which I note for future analysis.

  • After Christmas Post

    After Christmas Post

Christmas is over now. A new year has begun. My first blog post of the year, and first proper blog post at that.

Any posts prior to this were training posts to see how things worked and what I needed to do.

I don’t want to say too much about Christmas this year. I just want to say it was nice to be with family. On Christmas morning I took some photos of present opening, which is a family tradition. I would like to share those now.
