I’ve been enjoying posting things from other artists. The things I’ve recently shown from the High Museum have been very enjoyable to me. While there is some skill needed to render the art of others in a respectable way, it is still other peoples art. In some instances like the Sanié Sory photograph, I add my touch. People gathered in appreciation of the photograph adds a new layer I suppose. In some cases it was done fairly deliberately by me, like the Sanié Sory photograph. I expect there will be future posts in the High series where the second layer of environment and observers is less planned.
Anyway I like to think of myself as somewhat of an artist in my own rights. Occasionally I am inspired to do something like what I have to show you today. This was something that just happened without any planning or forethought. I was just sitting on my couch watching a movie when I thought, “Hey that would be pretty cool.”
I enjoy dark, moody images like this. The only light was from the candle and an ambient light from the television screen. I like slow shutter speeds and a little blur in some cases, when that’s what I’m trying to achieve. It’s very frustrating to get blur when you don’t want it blurred. Knowing the difference is one thing that comes with practice.
I’ve decided to use my watermark on these. I am still working out so many things with the website and blog of mine. I may use the watermark on all successive blog posts. Or maybe I won’t. Maybe I’ll only use them on images that are somewhat unique or could have some application that another person would want to steal it for some reason. Honestly I’m not even sure a person could download any of the images off my blog without doing a screenshot. It may be egotistical to think anyone would ever want any of these pictures. It may be wildly optimistic. In any case I like them, and hope someone else does too.
